I could summarize the process for achieving a realistic image in three phases-
Composition & Modeling: I define an attractive composition while modeling the building and placing the furniture.
Materials & Lighting: I create the materials and adjust the lighting; the complexity of each material depends on its visibility in the final render.
Post-Processing: I bring the image to life with photo retouching, modifying materials individually and adding characters.
